STUDY ON VITAMIN E LEVEL
IN BREAST MILK OF DIFFERENT STAGES Zhao
SX1, Zhu CL2, Jiang M1 1 The 2nd Hospital of China Medical University, Shenyang, China 2 The Affiliated Hospital of Chengde Medical College, Chengde, China Objective: To study the concentration
of α-tocopherol during the three stages of colostrum, transition milk
and mature milk, and investigate the relationship among them. Methods: The concentration of
α-tocopherol during the three stages of colostrum, transition milk and
mature milk of 40 breast-feeding women in North China was measured with
High Performance Liquid Chromatograph (HPLC). Then correlation analysis
between any 2 of these 3 concentrations was performed. Results: In the 3 phase of
colostrum, transition and mature milk, concentration of α-tocopherol
decreased, there were statistically significant difference between
colostrum and transition milk (P<0.01), between colostrum and mature
milk (P<0.01) and between transition and mature milk (P<0.05). There
were positive correlation between transition milk and colostrum and between
mature and transition milk (r=0.436 and 0.606, respectively, P<0.01). Conclusion:
The concentration
of α-tocopherol in colostrum is the tiptop, it is 2 and 2.7 times
higher than that in transition milk and in mature milk respectively. The concentration
of α-tocopherol in colostrum may affect that in transition milk and
vice versa.
