THE EVALUATION CRITERIA FOR MENTAL AND
MOTOR DEVELOPMENT OF INFANTS BORN AT TERM DURING THE FIRST 4 YEARS OF LIFE Alieva Kh.M., Zainiddinova R.S.,
Republic Center of Psychoneurological Health of Children and Adolescents,
Dagestan Ministry of Health, Makhachkala, Russia. The elaboration
of the simple scale for evaluation of mental and motor development of
infants is important for the practitioners working in rural regions. On the
base of the study of 4726 healthy infants and 24516 infants at risk or with neurological diseases we
propose the scale which consists of 5 points: 1) the tendency of early
adaptation; 2) the level of development of general motorics; 3) the level
of development of fine motor function; 4) preverbal and verbal development;
5) social behavior. Each point may be scored as “0” (if the function is
absent), as ”1” (if the function is decreased) or as “2” (if the function
is normal or close to normal). The evaluation of the 5th point
is possible only in infants older than 2 months. If the total score is
<10 (or <8 for the first 2 months of life) the infant is considered
as at risk of development of neurological pathology and needs the
special observation by neurologist; if the total score is <5 (or <4
for the infants younger than 2 months) it indicates that the infant has
neurological disease and should be under the special treatment. The infants
with total score =0 have severe organic brain pathology and the problem of
their social adaptation in the family or in special medical institutions
should be considered.
