Text Box: CARE ABOUT THE PARENTS OF THE DYING CHILDREN
Ding Q
Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University, Wuhan, China

To control birth rate increase properly, China has implemented a policy on family planning – one couple, one child. In such a situation, the child has an important position in the family. Once the child is ill, anxious mood of the parents is obvious. Parents are especially sad during dangerous or dying time of the child. It is so hard for most of them to accept the bitter fact that their child will go away. With experience of 16 years’ clinical care, the author considers that an education of dying preparation can help them reduce dying anxiety and medical knowledge on dying can assist them in understanding children’s unusual actions and expressions and reducing their misunderstanding and suspense. Medical workers should understand parents’ feelings and respect them entirely. Then parents will be able to face the fact and spend the difficult time together with medical workers.
