Objective: the morbidity rate of mental retardation in the 0~14 years old children in our country is 1.2% in the present. In order to improve the population quality, we studied 1600 cases of health children and 41 Mongolia children of 2~9 years old. The relationship between innercanthus distance, outercanthus distance and intellectual quotient (IQ), the normal value of the ratio of innercanthus distance to outercanthus distance, the ratio of innercanthus distance to the length of round head and the relationship between its ratio and IQ were studied.

Methods: the innercanthus distance and outercanthus distance, the length of round head, IQ of 1600 cases of health children and 41 Mongolia children were assessed. The chromosome of Mongolia children were examined also. The data were processed statistically.

Results: the children with lower ratio of innercantus distance to outercanthus distance had higher IQ than the children with higher ratio of that, the children with lower ratio of innercantus to the length of round head had higher IQ than the children with higher ratio of that. There were obvious different between normal children and Mongolia children in every age group in the average value of innercanthus distance, outercanthus distance, length of round head and IQ.

Conclusion: It was showed that the health children with smaller innercanthus distance had higher IQ. There was no difference in the ratio of innercanthus distance to outercanthus distance, the ratio of innercanthus distance to the length of round head from different age, Sex group, the Mongolia children had higher ratio of innercanthus distance to outercanthus and higher ratio of innercanthus distance to the length of round head than normal children. The length of round head of Mongolia children were smaller than normal children .The study above had no report in our country at present.
