IMPACT OF ADMINISTRATION AND EDUCATION ON TREATMENT OF ASTHMATIC CHILDREN

Objective: To identify effects of administration and education on treatment of asthmatic children.
Methods: Asthmatic children were separated two groups randomly, administration group and nonadministration group. Administration group (112 cases) was educated with the knowledge of asthma. Nonadministration group (106 cases) was not educated. The period of follow up was one year. The times of asthma attack, going emergency department and hospitalization, the days missing school and peak expiry flow (PEF) was recorded during the one-year period before and after study beginning.
Results: In administration group times of asthma attack from 4.1  1.0 to 2.3  0.7, times of going to emergency department from 3.4  1.3 to 1.8  0.7, times of hospitalization from 0.6 0.3 to 0.2 0.1.  Days missing school from 12.4 3.6 to 3.2 1.2. PEF from 255 42 to 305 53.  All changes were highly significant. In nonadministration group these changes were no significant.
Conclusions: Administration and education are helpful to improve the compliance of asthmatic children and the effects of asthmatic medicine.
