KNOWLEDGE OF THE EPILEPTIC CHILDREN’S PARENTS, THEIR COMPLIANCE AND
THERAPEUTIC EFFICACY Ying DH Dongyang People’s Hospital, Dongyang City, Zhejiang
Province, China Objective: To investigate
epileptic children’s parents of their knowledge about epilepsy and to
follow up their compliance and effects of drug therapy. Methods: To question 238 cases
of the epileptic children’s parents during 1997-1999 with a Questionnaire about Epilepsy
designed by ourselves. We classified them into high and low groups
according to the final score. Then we followed the compliance and effects
of the two groups respectively. Results: In 144 cases of high
knowledge, the compliance rate is 83.3%(120 cases), with 92 cases (63.88%)
of good effect, 36 cases (25%) of effect. In the other 94 cases of low
knowledge group, the compliance rate is 65.96% (62 cases), with 49 cases
(52.13%) of good effect, 22 cases (21.27%)of effect, and 23 cases
(26.60%)of poor effect. Conclusion: To raise the parents’
knowledge about epilepsy is propitious to improve the compliance and
therapeutic efficacy. Key Words: epilepsy, knowledge,
