A SURVEY OF SCL-90 IN
PARENTS OF EPILEPTIC CHILDREN Ren

China Objective: To explore the
psychological status of the parents of epileptic Children. Method: The SCL-90 was
administered to 42 couples with Epileptic Children (Ep group) and 30
couples with normal Children (No group). Results: Compared to No group and norms, Ep group scored higher
on the SCL-90 subscales of somatizaton, depression, anxiety and phobic
anxiety, but lower on the subscales of interpersonal sensitivity and
hostility (p<0.01). Mothers in
Ep group had much higher scores on anxiety, depression, somatization and
phobic anxiety subscales than Fathers. Conclusion: Parents of epileptic
Children have poor psychological health. When taking a cure to epileptic Children, more
help and supports should be given to their parents, especially to the mothers.
