Objective: To discuss the best blood consistency of valproate (VPA) treated childhood-epilepsy, the relation between dosage, weight and consistency, to instruct treatment.

Methods: 90 cases of children with epilepsy treated only with VPA were chosen as subjects. After 5 to7 half-lives (t1/2=5~20h) each was taken 2ml blood in the morning and tested by Automated Fluorescence Polarization Analyzer (TDX, Abbort Corp.U.S.A.).

Resluts: The effective VPA consistency in blood was 400mg/ml. When dosage was 10~30mg/kg·d, the consistency and dosage was in positive correlation(r=0.56, p<0.01). To each weight group, the regressive lines of consistency and dosage didn’t overlap: weight<10kg was low correlation(r=0.30), weight>30kg was medium correlation (r=0.65).

Conclutions: Better curative effects can be obtained by regulating individual dosage under the monitor of VPA consistency.
