Objective: To detect fetal congenital heart disease (CHD) by using Color doppler echocardiography.

Methods: 296 fetus were divided into two groups:142 with high risk pregnancies and 154 with low risk pregnancies. Mutiple views of fetal heart and Color flow imaging were used for screening fetal CHD. The prenatal echocardiographic diagnosis were confirmed by fetal autopsy and echocardiographic examine after birth as well as follow up.

Results: Five fetal heart defects were detected in high risk pregnancies group. These included one case of hypoplastic right heart, two cases of TOF and two cases of VSD. Two fetal heart defects were missed prenatally. Those included small VSD and ASD. No fetal heart defects were detected in low risk pregnancies group.

Conclusion: Color doppler echocardiography has been shown to be an accurate and safe method for diagnosing CHD in fetuses. The fetal cardiovascular system at high risk pregnancies should be evaluated.
