Objective: To find which one is more effective in the health education given to the children's parents in pediatric ward, the formal-way or the informal-way.

Methods: During 11,1998 to 2,1999, 91 cases of pneumonia were collected. By random method, the children's parents were divided into two groups: one group attended the formal-way health education and the other one attended the informal-way health education. At the end of the education, questionnaires were administered to the parents to measure the effects of the education.

Results: The pass rate of the group is 80%, and that of the informal-way group is 50% (χ2=7.711P0.01).

Conclusions: According to the result, it is proved that the formal-way health education is more effective than the informal-way education. And we support to widely use the formal-way health education among the children's parents in pediatric ward.
