Objective: To explore the efficacy of early intervention on the newborns suffered from hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) through a series of follow-up cases, which were examined the development quotient (DQ) and the brain CT, and evaluate early prognosis of the neonatal HIE.

Methods: One hundred survivors suffered from neonatal HIE (II, II - III) which received early intervention, were followed up for two years and examicied CT and DQ.

Results: 1. An early intervention was carried for improving the prognosis of the newborns with HIE(II, II - III), The normal rate of their brain CT and DQ in early intervention group were higher than no-intervention group. These differences were statistically significant, P<0.01. There were no significant differences in neonatal HIE (III), P>0.05. 2.The follow-up examination showed that the high correlation between the brain CT and DQ in early intervention group, r=0.88. The brain CT in early intervention group was improved, accompanied by the improvement of clinical signs (DQ level). Meanwhile, the low correlation between the brain CT and DQ in no-intervention group, r=0.55.

Conclusion: Early intervention can improve clearly the prognosis of neonatal HIE. CT integrated with DQ can improve accuracy and early diagnosis.
