Objective: To elevate the technical level of intravenous urograph for infants. Methods: From June 1997 to December 2000, 80 infants who were doubted to have urinary system disease came to our department. They were divided into two groups. One was traditional method, the other was modified method, every group had 40 cases. Both groups had intravenous urographic examination alone.

Results: According to levels of satisfactory, less satisfactory and dissatisfactory, all the cases were divided into three grades. Traditional group: 8 cases were satisfactory. 11 cases were less satisfactory and 21 cases were dissatisfactory. Modified group: 22 cases were satisfactory 17 cases were less satisfactory and 1 case dissatisfactory. Based on the analysis, we can draw a conclusion that both methods have striking difference(P<0.001).

Conclusion: Modified method is a method which simplified the operating processes, reduced examination time, reduced the suffering and is appropriate for the infants` examination. Furthermore, the method improved the effects of radiography and offered reliable bases for diagnosis. So it is one technique which is  worth being popularized.
