APPROACHES ON TAKING CARE OF THREE CASES OF EXTREMELY LOW BIRTH WEIGHT INFANTS

Objective: To evaluate the approach of taking care of extremely low birth weight infant (ELBWI) and to increase the survival rate of ELBWI.

Methods: Aimed at nursing difficulty of ELBWI and followed the advanced nursing techniques in taking care of premature infants, 3 cases of ELBWI were observed. Besides supporting respiration and administering antibiotics, the suitable environment and improved feeding pattern were given. Meanwhile, implemented massage and psychological care to improve the growth and development of ELBWI.

Results: 3 cases of ELBWI all pulled through from the period of respiratory dysfunction. Their weights increased steadily.

Conclusion: As respiratory supervision and nursing techniques are improved, the ELBWI’s survival rate can be increased. Massage and psychological care improve the growth and development of ELBWI.
