Objective: To realize the value of CVB-RNA assay in blood by PCR technique to identify viral pathogen of myocarditis and the relationship between the positive rate and the course.

Methods: CVB3 was injected into the abdominal cavity of 25 mice. Then pathological exam and CVB-RNA assay by PCR technique was done. CVB-RNA was examed by PCR method in 145 children with myocarditis. The positive rate of CVB-RNA in myocarditis were compared in cases whose course within one month and more than one month.

Results: 64 of 75 mice (85.3%) had pathological change as myocarditis. CVB-RNA was positive in 40 of 75 mice (53.3%).The positive rate of CVB-RNA was 46.2% in the blood of 145 cases with myocarditis. The positive rate of CVB-RNA in patients whose course shorter than one month was higher than that of longer than one month.

Conclusion: The sensitivity and reliability of CVB-RNA assay in blood by PCR technigue to identify viral pathogen of myocarditis. The positive rate was higher in the course of viral myocarditis patients shorter than one month than those longer than one month.
