Objective: To realize the normal value of DTI and the usage in childen with DCM.

Methods: The movement velocity of mitral valve ring (MVR), left ventricular posterior wall (LVPW), Cardiac apex (CA) and interventricular septum (IVS) were measured by DTI in 203 normal children from newborn to 14 years of age and the other cardiac function such as ejection fraction (EF), shortening fraction (SF), cardiac index (CI) and stroke index (SI) were also measured in children with DCM.

Results: The normal value of DTI have five rules: 1. The velocity is increase with age. 2. The velocity is not influenced by heart rate. 3. The velocity of endocardial muscle is faster then that of exocardial muscle stage. 4. The velocity in diastolic stage is faster than that of systolic stage. 5. The velocity of the muscle of LVPW is faster then that of the CA. The velocity of the musle of CA is faster then that of IVS. The results of DTI and Dopple echocardiography exam of 40 cases with DCM showed that early diastolic velocity of MVR decreased in 100%, endocardial muscle diastolic velocity of LVPW decreased in 85%. EF decreased in 32.5%, FS decreased in 27.5%

Conclusion: The normal value of DTI was determined. The 5 rules of the influence factor of DTI were found. The DTI changes were more sensitive and reliable than other function test in patient with DCM.
