Objective: In order to show the potentical change in the clinics of child health care, we collected whole clinical cases in 1999 and 2000 to compared the prevalence of main problems or disorders in these two years.

Methods: All cases were random and out-patient. The age was from birth to eighteen years old. The total cases in our clinic was 5581 in 1999, 7510 in 2000. The primary cases who came to the clinic just one time was 3428 in 1999, 4474 in 2000. It was classified fifteen groups according to the numbers of the cases which occupied most spectrum of the problems of child health care. We compared the clinical date in these two years by the statistics applied x2 significance test.

Results: It proved that physical examination for good-baby and growth problems still took more than two third of the cases in the clinics of child health care every year. Five groups of problems increased significantly such as behavial or psychological disorders, speech and language disorders, learning difficulties, developmental delay and growth retardation (p<0.01), which feeding problems and anemia decreased significantly, too. (the former p<0.05, the latter p<0.01)

Conclusions: The spectrum of the problems in the child health care had been changed potentially. We should accommodate this new situation, develop new expertise such as speech and language therapy, physical therapy, occupational therapy, behavioral modification, etc to deal with a series of developmental or behavioral disorders. At present, it is urgent for us to get liason among rehabilitation, special education, psychology and pediatrics would bring the most benefit to our children’s health.
