Objective:  To Find out the value of serum ECP in the diagnosis of asthma, evaluation of asthma severity and distinguishing between atopic and non atopic asthma.

Methods: This study included 40 children their age ranged form 5-13 years (30 asthmatics and 10 healthy matched as a control group). All the children were subjected to full history and clinical examination, complete blood picture, skin prick test , IGE, CRP and serum ECP determination .

Results: Serum ECP was significantly higher in asthmatic group than control group (P> 0.01) While there was no statistical significance between serum ECP in atopic and non atopic asthmatics also no significant correlation between serum ECP and severity of asthma.

Conclusion: Serum ECP may be useful as an inflammatory marker in asthma.
