Objective: To explore the temperament characteristics, behavioral problem and relationship between them in disabled children.

Methods: The test results of 78 disabled children and 78 normal children aged 812 on Chinese School Temperament Scale (CSTS) and Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL)  were analyzed by making 1:1 comparison; besides , the scores of  behavioral factors of CBCL were compared by the type of temperament , and the influence of CBCL scores by temperament in many  factors was investigated by  the multiple stepwise regression.

Results: The rate of difficult, intermediate-difficult and slow up to warm temperament in disabled children was significantly higher than normal children, and the rate of easy and intermediate-easy temperament was especially lower than normal children. The rate of behavioral disorder was 91% in disabled children, 14% in normal children .The Scores of behavioral factors on the introverted dimensions and the dimension of social flinch were obviously high.  Total score of CBCL was 64.74±12.95 in disabled children, 51.03±8.50 in normal children. Highly different effects were obtained (p<0.01). In addition, the scores of many behavioral factors of CBCL in the difficult, intermediate-difficult and slow up to warm temperament were much higher than in the easy and intermediate-easy temperament. In the regressive model, the temperament type was the independent variable that was introduced first. The rate of contribution for the total score of CBCL was 48% (R2=0.48).

Conclusion: There were marked differences between disabled children and normal children in the type of temperament. The rate of behavioral disorder was higher for disabled children. There was a close relationship between the behavioral problem and the temperament type.
