Objective: To prevent the obesity
in children and improve the children’s nutrition status.
Methods: All of the children
were selected randomly, in which 140 children who lived in Shanghai and 125
children who lived in Hong Kong. To assay the serum lipids concentration,
measure the anthropometric index, assess the diet contents and estimate the
physical activity. To compare the difference between Shanghai children and
Hong Kong children.
Results: It is shown that besides high-density lipoprotein, the
serum lipids of Hong Kong children are higher than that of Shanghai
children. The average serum total cholesterol value of Hong Kong children
is already exceeds the American normal criteria level (4.4mmol/L),
especially the serum total cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein of Hong
Kong boys are significantly higher than that of Shanghai boys. Shanghai
children’s BMI index is higher than that of Hong Kong children. Hong Kong
girl’s BMI index is significantly lower. After analysis children’s diet, it
is show that the protein and lipid intakes incline a bit on the high side
of requirement; moreover the carbohydrate is on the low side of the RDA. In
addition, the children with high serum total cholesterol tend to have
higher saturated fat intake and lower physical activities.
Conclusion: It should prevent the formation of the higher
protein, higher lipid, and lower carbohydrate diet manner in children. And
we should pay attention to physical activities of children. The serum lipid
concentration of the over weight or obesity children should be supervised
regularly.
