Capital Institute of
Pediatrics, Beijing, China
Objective: To evaluate
therapeutic effects of Mucosolvan ampule in treatment of acute
bronchiolitis in children.
Methods: The authors
applied a randomized controlled method to conduct the clinical study in 137
patients with bronchiolitis admitted to the Affiliated Children's Hospital
of the Capital Institute of Pediatrics during the period of the August of
1999 to February of 2000. The patients were divided into 5 group: the
aerosolized Mucosolvan group had 29 cases, the intravenous Mucosolvan group
had 25 cases, the combinative of intravenous and aerosolized
Mucosolvan had 28 cases, placebo had 27 cases, and aerosolized normal
saline (NS) had 28 cases.
Results: The results
of the study showed that treatment with Mucosolvan was superior to placebo
and NS treatment in terms of improvement in clinical status, number of days
needed for relieves of symptoms (cough, F=16.12, P<0.01) and
signs(clinical Lowell scord, F=12.63, P<0.01). No severe side effects
were seen in Mucosolvan groups.
Conclusions: Mucosolvan
is an effective adjunctive therapeutic approach to acute bronchiolitis.
