Objective: To study effect of Danshen Injection to treat pediatric primary nephrotic syndrome (NS).
Methods: we choose 44 children diagnosed with primary NS. All patients were randomly divided into two groups in which one was common treatment group (prednisone and anti-symptom treatments, called routine group) and the other was common treatment combined with danshen injection group (named danshen group). The routine group included 14 boys and 6 girls with age of 2-13 year-old (mean 6.8). The danshen group composed 15 boys and 9 girls aged 3-13 years (mean 7.2). Sera were obtained prior to the administration of prednisone treatment and danshen and at 2 weeks after these treatment for determination of ET and SIL-2R by the way of radioimmunoassay (RIA). Data were recorded as means±standard deviation (SD),differences between groups were compared by Students' t-test before and after treatments. A P value of less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Meanwhile, we selected 20 normal body examination children in the outdoors of our hospital as control group.
Results: Before treatment, the level of ET, SIL-2R of patients in two groups was significantly higher than that in the control group (P<0.01), but between the two groups there was no difference in the level of serum ET and SIL-2R prior treatment. After treatment, the level of ET, SIL-2R in Danshen group was significantly lower than that in routine group.
Conclusion: Intravenous infusion of danshen in lowering the level of serum ET and SIL-2R in NS has been more effective than routine treatment.
