THE EXPLORE OF THE WORK MODE IN EYE
CARE OF KINDERGARTEN CHILDREN

Objective: To explore of the work mode in eye care of kindergarten
children for decrease the risk of children eye disease. Establish the
children eye disease prevention and cure network base on three levels medical
care system
Methods:
Since 1999, 10 kindergarten children between the ages of 3 and 7 years in
the city of Guangzhou, P.R. of China, have been systematically screened for
amblyopia and amblyogenic risk factors.
Results: We combine the vision screen and eye disease screen in these children;
combine the Pediatrics¡¯ Ophthalmology clinic technology and children care technology.
The doctor of kindergarten remind of the parent of the children which
having eye disease. We found 20% children suffer from some eye disease in
these children, include ametropia, strabismus etc. About 5¡ª8% children were
being diagnosed amblyopia and accepted treatment. About 95% amblyopia
children were cured during half or one year after accepted treatment.
Conclusions: The screening program for amblyopia and amblyogenic risk
factors in infants, followed by appropriate treatment, is effective in
significantly reducing the prevalence and severity of amblyopia in
children.
