INVESTIGATION ON FAMILY NURSING KNOWLEDGE OF PREMATURE INFANT¡¯S

Objects: To evaluate the family nursing knowledge of premature infant¡¯s
parents, in order to help our nurses to strengthen training for them.
Methods: Questionnaire about premature's nursing knowledge
were gaven to the parents of 22 premature infants hospitalized in NICU of
PUMCH from May through December, 2000.
Results: 72.7% of the parents said they knew nothing about
it while 22.7% said they had different extent of this knowledge. 93.1% of
the parents answered that they need nursing knowledge from medical staff
which included: early intelligence training; health care; feeding &
nutrition observation and living care.
Conclusion: This investigation indicated that the
premature infant¡¯s parents are critically short of family nursing
knowledge. They really need this kind of knowledge providing by medical
staff. The results suggested that we should prepare in NICU for parents¡¯
education hand-out. It¡¯s an important work to improve nursing and living
quality of premature infants.
