Respiratory Infections are the most
common diseas during childhood years, from birth to puberty. The most
frequent causes are of bacterial and virus origin, but recently our
attention has been drawn to chemical agens, i.e. airpollution.
The
aim of this study is to show an accidency to all cases treated at the
Children’s Department from 90 - 98 with a special review to Bronchitis -
Bronchopneumonia - Bronchitis obstructive values, shown on the chart, in
months with the least occurrence of respiratory infections imply that from
90 -93 this disease was from 2% - 10%, while in 94 until 97 was 13% - 40%..
Bronchopneumonia
cases do not show significant differences. During winter and spring this
relation is 17% - 20% against 24% - 38% for the years 90 - 93 and 94 - 97,
while for Bronchopneumonia there are no significant differences. If we take
for instance, city - village relation, it is 66% - 33% for Bronchitis
obstructive, while for Bronchopneumonia the percentage is the same for
both.
The
age group that is mostly affected by this disease are children of 1-3
years. The most frequent cause nonbacterial origin and this is supported by
high percentage of negative smears and drainage secretions, probably virus
which almost always occurs during winter months. Fact that percentage of
Bronchitis - obstructive cases is being increased during the last fewyears,
with of course obvious differences in summer months, has made us think that
there must be another cause, i.e. constant increasing of air pollution.
Although
Kumanovo is in the group of less polluted towns, the evidence given by Car
Association shows that the average age of cars is above 15 years which is
an additional cause for air pollution, which, again, should be constantly
followed.
