Objective: To investigate the long-term intelligence effect of salivia miltiorrhizae on the newborn rat with hypoxic-ischemic brain damage (HIBD).
Methods: The newborn rat HIBD model was set and 50mg/10g dosage salivia miltiorrhizae was administered to the rat abdominal cavity, respectively. The learning emory abilities were assessed by T-maze test.
Results: The function of learning and memory was better in salivia miltiorrhizae groups than in HIBD group, the frequency was lower remarkably than HIBD group (p<0.05). The major micro-pathologic changes in the HIBD group ranged from small area neuronal degeneration or laminar necrosis, neuronal loss and cerebral calcification to large cystic infarcts. These changes in the salivia miltiorrhizae group were reduce.
Conclusions: Salivia miltiorrhizae could prevent and treated the intelligence defecit following HIBD.
