Objective: To investigate the blood lead level of asthmatic children in Hainan.
Methods: Vein blood Samples for lead level determination were taken from 176 asthmatic children aged 3-12 years, from 150 healthy children as control, and the questionnaires were distributed to the asthmatics for their behavior and mentality.
Results: The mean blood lead level for asthmatics was 82.76 mg/L. 67 cases (38.07%) were found with lead level ≥100mg/L (lead poisoning) which were much higher than that of control (P<0.01). Asthmatic children with lead poisoning were noticed more movable, irritable and less friends than that of asthmatics with normal blood level.
Conclusions: The blood lead level of asthmatic children is higher than that of healthy children. A negative effect on the behavior and mentality for asthma in children should be paid attention.
