Objective: To research effect of mother’s passive smoking on nervous behavior in the new-born
Methods: In this paper, 20 kinds of nervous behavior neurological assessment (NBNA) and fetal physical development were investigated with double blind in 465 cases of normal newborns whose were passive smoking and no smokers.
Results: The results suggested that mothers’ passive smoking has markedly effect only on fetal birth weight The quantities of father’s smoking was in proportion with hours of mother’s passive smoking, (x2=59.57, p<0.005) has a significant difference. The rate of decrease score of NBNA in passive smoking group was higher 0.11% than that in control group; the rate of increase score of NBNA in passive smoking group was lower 6.44% than that in control group, both have significant differences.
Conclusion: the effect on newborn of mother’s passive smoking was mainly in active and passive muscular tension, stepping reaction and behavior problem. It suggested that mother’s passive smoking in gestation have the possibility of brain damage or central nervous system dysfunction in infants.
