Objective: To investigate the etiology of viral pneumonia in children.
Methods: The swabs of pharynx were detected using bridge-linked immunosorbent assay for virus in 100 children under 2 years old with skeptical viral pneumonia from 1998 to 1999.After approving of viral pneumonia, children were further studied using serum enzymelinked immunosorbent assay for specific viral Ig. The coincidence of two results was thought to be a suitable case.
Result: Respiratory syncytical virus (RSV), adenovirus (ADV) and coxackievirus (CBV) are the main viruses in children pneumonia under 2 years old.
Conclusion: Our results showed that RSV, ADV are the main viruses in children pneumonia in Heilongjiang province. CBV is another main virus in children pneumonia. Early diagnosis and early treatment are very important in children pneumonia.

Key words: viral pneumonia, respiratory syncytical virus, adenovirus, coxsackievirus.
