Objective: To investigate the expression and role of P16, Rb and cyclin D1 in childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL).
Methods: Immuno-histo-chemistry was used to detect the expression of P16, Rb and cyclin D1 in 28 samples of childhood ALL patients.
Results: P16 protein was positive in 53.6% (15/28) of the childhood ALL and Rb was positive in 57.1%(16/28). Cyclin D1 was positive in 46.4% (13/28). P16, Rb and cyclin D1 were respectively positive in 90%, 100% and 0 of the blast cells from 10 idiopathic Thrombocyto- penic purpura.
Conclusion: Abnormality in the negative feedback regulatory pathway of Cyclin D1/CDK4, Rb and P16 may be involved in the molecular mechanism of childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
