Objective:
To study the states of psychological health and
mutual influence among pediatric inpatients and their parents.
Methods:
33 pediatric inpatients were tested with
Hamilton Anxiety Scale (HAMA), comparing with 29 healthy children. The
patients' parents were assessed by Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS),
comparing with the Chinese norm.
Results:
The score of anxiety in the pediatric
inpatients was higher than in the healthy children (P<0.01). Except for the factor of behavior at interview, the
scores of all factors in HAMA were higher, and significant differences were
found. The percentage of the inpatients with anxiety was 60.5%, higher than
that of the healthy children with anxiety (P<0.01). The score of anxiety in the inpatients' parents was
higher (P<0.01). No
correlation was found between the anxiety of the inpatients and their
parents.
Conclusions:
Obvious anxiety existed among pediatric
inpatients and their parents. No correlation was found between each other.
