Objective: To investigate intelligence quotients (IQs) and
Social adaptive capacities (SABs) of epileptic children.
Methods: IQ and SAB were assessed in 197 children with
epilepsy and 90 normal children and compared between two groups. Besides,
the intelligence structures of 117 cases of epileptic children who had
normal IQs were compared with those of control group
Results: IQs and SABs of epileptic children were
significantly lower than normal the children and there was also deficiency
of perception factor and memory (concentration factor) among epileptic
children with normal IQ.
Conclusion: Childhood epilepsy should be diagnosed and
treated, early, which helps to reduce the incidence of mental
retardation.
