Objective: To search for the molecular epidemiology of Adenovirus       pneumonia.

Methods: The randomly amplified polymorphism DNA (RAPD) technology was used to analysis Adenovirus genotype of 113 ADV stains isolated from the pneumonia infants in Changchun children’s hospital  during 1992-2000 .

Results: The Adenovirus Pneumonia is gradually reducing in children. The main epidemic ADV genotype was ADV 7b during 1992-1994 and was ADV3I during 1995-2000. ADV7b is the most toxic genotype. It has caused  severe pneumonia. ADV3 is relatively steady, and ADV7 is unsteady.

Conclusions: This study shows that the toxicity is different in different Adenovirus genotype. Analysis of Adenovirus genotype could study the epidemiology and prognosis of illness in molecular level. These has the important significance of the study of the gene vaccine of Adenovirus.
