Xijing Hospital, Fourth Military Medical University, Xian, China 2 Institute of Neuroscience, Fourth Military Medical University, China Objective:
To investigate the role of virus infections in
the occurrence of childhood idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura(ITP). Methods:
Human parvovirus B19(HPV B19), Epstein-Barr
virus (EBV), cytomegalovirus (CMV) and hepatitis B virus (HBV) were detected
in 32 children with acute ITP by using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and
ELISA skills. Results: Positive HPV B19-DNA was observed on 8 cases (25.0%) in the ITP
group and 1 in the control group (P<0,05).
Positive EBV-DNA, CMV-DNA and HBV-antigens were detected on 2, 3 and 2
cases, respectively. The total positive rate of these 4 viruses was
46.9%(15/32). Conclusions:
The pathegenesis of nearly 1/2 childhood ITP
cases probably correlates with virus infections, specially HPV B19
infection.
