Objective: To apply of and compare with the Pediatric Critical Illness Scoring System (PCIS) and Pediatric Risk of Mortality (PRISM) for assessing the Pediatric patient's condition and prognosis.
Methods: 141 cases whom were hospitalized to PICU were applied the PCIS and PRISM meanwhile on d1, d3, d7 ICU-days.
Results: The PCIS scores were classed into ~100, ~80, ~70 groups which represented patients were non-critical ,critical ,very critical illness. The mortality rates of 3 groups were 8.2%, 36.4%, 50% in order(P<0.001). The PRISM scores were classed into 0~, 11~, 21~ groups which represented patients were in low, medium, high risk of death. The mortality rates of 3 groups were 4.3%, 38.1%, 48.1% in order(P<0.0001). Between survival and death patients the PCIS and PRISM scores on d1,d3,d7 ICU-days there were significant differences (P<0.001). The PCIS and PRISM had very strong negative correlation (r = -0.867, P<0.0001).
Conclusion: The PCIS and PRISM can be use to evaluate the pediatric critical ill patients' condition and prognosis objectively and exactly. Both have very strong negative correlation.
