Objective:To investigate the levels of plasma thrombopoietin (TPO) and the relationships between the levels of plasma TPO ,platelet counts (PLT) and the levels of plasma platelet associated immunoglobulin G (PAIgG) in children with thrombocytopenia.
Methods: The plasma TPO and PAIgG levels were determined by a sensitive sandwich ELISA and a ABC-ELISA respectively.
Results: The plasma TPO levels in acute idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (AITP) (82±23 pg/ml), aplastic anemia(AA) (526±211pg/ml) and acute leukemia (AL) (382±282pg/ml) children were all elevated compared to that in normal control(62±22pg/ml).Children with AA,AL had significant high plasam TPO concentrations, and they showed inverse correlation with PLT.
Conclusion:Thrombocytopenia is characterized with decreased PLT counts in the peripheral blood.TPO is one kind of hemogenic factors specifically belonging to megalocaryocyte. Our findings suggest that the peripheral blood PLT counts may influence the plasam TPO levels. Thrombocytopenia with different causes had different plasma TPO levels.Plasam TPO level measurements have certain diagnostic value in thrombocytopenia.
