文本框: PARVOVIRUS B19 IN MEXICAN CHILDREN

Objectives: To determine if the hepatitis, artritis and the aplasic crisis are manifestations associated with the acute infection of parvovirus B19 in the pediatric population of the National Institute of Pediatric, Mexico City.
Material and Methods: An observational, comparative and retrospective investment was made from July of 1996 to January 31st of 2000.  Al the people of 18 years old of both genders were included.  To all were determinated the antibodies IgM vs parvovirus B19 with ELISA’s method.  The variables included were the clinic manifestations of the acute infection of parvovirus B19, hepatitis, artritis, fever and aplasic crisis.  It was made the comparison between the groups linfadenopathy with the analisis of X2 of Pearson.
Results: There were included a total of 29 cases and 66 witnesses. Of all the controls, 13 (44.8%) corresponded to the male population and 16 (51%) to the female population, the average age was of 101 months with a range of 12-191 with a standard deviation of 54.4. Of al the witnesses, 32 (48.8%) corresponded to the male population and 34 (54.1%) to the female population, the average age was of 85 months with a range of 1-201 months with a standard deviation of 61.9.  There only was a significant statistic difference for fever p<0.0009 and the infectious eritema p<0.01.  None of the hematologic variables had p<0.05.
Conclusion: In this review of case and witnesses we noticed one more time the polimorfism of the clinic sickness of the acute infection of parvovirus B19.  Being statistical difference in infectious eritema p<0.013 and fever p<0.001.
