Objective: To explore the clinical diagnostic characteristics in children with sinobronchitis.
Methods: Diagnostic criteria were set. Clinical symptoms, signs and peripheral blood in 253 cases were performed the statistical analysis. Nasal swabs from 241 cases were performed Gram-stained smears, bacteriologic cultures and microbial sensitivity tests. Chest X-ray findings in 192 cases were analyzed. The results of both the sinus X-ray and the sinus CT scans were compared and analyzed in 116 cases.
Results: (1) Incidence of recurrent cough in the patients was100%, while one of rhinorrhea and edema of nasal mucosa was 84.2%. They were the typical characteristics of sinobronchitis. (2) Smear findings indicated that neutrophil was above normal (58.9%), epithelial cells (27.8%), especially in the young age group. (3) 70.3% of the patients had abnormal chest X-ray findings. (4) According to sinus CT scans being considered gold criteria, the rate of misdiagnosis of sinus X-ray was 13.8% in the maxillary sinus, 69.0% in the ethmoid sinus and 25.9% in the sphenoid sinus.
Conclusion: (1) The diagnostic criteria set by the study are put forward as a draft and put into effect after consultations from pediatric professionals. (2) Sinus CT scan findings can be used to determine the diagnosis, while sinus X-ray findings can only be used as the preliminary diagnosis. (3) Bacteriological findings have important reference value.
