Objective: To study the relationship between antineutrophil cytoplasmic autoantibodies (ANCA) and anticardiolipin antibodies (ACA) in the patients with Kawasaki disease (KD).
Methods: Serum was collected prior to IVGG therapy from 23 children who met the clinical diagnostic criteria for KD. Three children with KD had coronary aneurysm and one had new onset valvulitis. Serum from 22 age-matched heathy subjects were used and ANCA (PR3 and MPO) and ACA (IgG, IgM and IgA) were measured by ELISA in two groups.
Results: Positive rate of MPO-ANCA and IgG-ACA in KD patient were 69.6%(16/23) and 73.9%(17/23) respectively, and higher than the normal level (P<0.05). There was no significant difference in the positive and negatire rate of these two kinds of antibodies with coronary artery lesion. Analysis of correlation indicated that MPO-ANCA correlate positively with IgG-ACA (r = 0.63, P<0.05).
Conclusion: The major antigens and antibodies were MPO-ANCA and IgG-ACA in the patients with KD. For clinically suspected patients ANCA and ACA should be tested earlier in order to make a earlier diagnosis.
