Objective: To estimate the causes、prognosis and value the characteristic of lung function in children with cough variant asthma, discuss on the scheme of diagnosis and treatment.
Methods: Retrospectively analyzed the causes and clinic manifestation in 100 children from 1 to 14 years old with cough variant asthma in recent two years.
Results: In the cases,49 and 46 children respectively had personal and family allergic history (49%, 46%); 40 ones had derivational factors (40%), 8 children had infected with mycoplasma pneumoniae. Measured allergen test in 26 patients, the tests all were positive. Measured lung function in 29 children,12 ones had ventilated obstruction in large or small respiratory tract (41.3%), bronchial diastolization test were positive in 18 cases who had normal lung function (64.7%). The eosinophilic granulocyte count was high in 22 of 41 cases. All cases treated with diastolic bronchial medicine and ketotifen, 68 patients had completely controlled in 1or 2 months, 8 ones became typical asthma. The 32 cases that were not controlled in more than 2 months treated with inhaled hormone or specific immunotherapy from 6 to 12 months, they recovered, and cough did not appear in the year of follow-up survey.
Conclusions: Asking about allergic history、derivational factors or measuring lung function would make for diagnosis of cough variant asthma. The clinic manifestation generally could be controlled in 2 months; if that could not, inhaled hormone or specific immunotherapy should be given to the cases.
