Objective:
Application and evaluation of a nested polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for
diagnosis of Chlamydia Pneumoniae (CP) infection.
Method: Based
on detecting the CP specific region of 16S rRNA gene, 81 cultured
nasopharyngeal swabs were amplified by nested PCR and compare its results
with culture results.
Results: The
sensitivity and specificity of this nested PCR was 29.41% and 81.25%
respectively. While the positive value of predictive (PVP) is 29.41% and
the negative value of predictive (NVP) is 81.25%.
Conclusion: The
results indicated that this nested PCR should be further improved for later
use in diagnostics. It is mandatory for evaluation its significance with
gold standard for clinical application.
