Objective: To
investigate the correlation of the serious neonatal human-milk diarrhea
(NHMD) and the incidence of vitamin D deficiency rickets in
infancy-toddler's age.
Methods: We
made a follow-up for the growth and nutrition status of 32 cases with NHMD
who were treated with conventional vitamin D and calcium to prevent rickets
in infancy-toddler's period.
Results: Two
of 18 with slight NHMD (11%) and 8 of 14 cases with the serious (57%)
suffered from the vitamin D deficiency rickets in infancy-toddler's age.
Conclusion:
The rickets incidence of the children with serious NHMD was significant
high in infancy-toddler's period. The curative effect was poor for this
kind of rickets by taking orally conventional dose of vitamin D. It had to
be treated with oral high-dose or intramuscular vitamin D for some of the
children to cure rickets.
