STRESS INDEX

Objective: To explore and study the quality of life (QOL) of children with epilepsy and Parenting stress index (PSI).
Methods: Epilepsy inventory in USA and Piers-Harris children¡¯s self-concept scale was used to study QOL in 60 epileptic children. PSI was study for their mother. 
Results: The overall QOL score was 50 .QOL correlate the most with ¡°social functioning¡± (r=0.8199, P<0.001) and cognition (r=0.7856, P<0.001); The total Self Concept score were 51.  It maintained to be within ¡°acceptable¡± range. Relatively, they felt themselves weakest in the ¡°intellectual & school status¡± and ¡°Phy. Appearance & attributes (r=0.8522, P<0.001); PSI showed that the stress of the mothers was generally very high. It correlates most with the ¡°adaptability of child¡±(r=8.8234, P<0.001). 
Conclusion: Assessment the psychological and social profile of epilepsy children and their mothers is essential to the comprehensive management in a chronic disorder with a social stigma in order to improve the quality of medical care.
