Objectives: The aim of this study is
to compare the clinical data and outcome between transcatheter closure and surgical repair of atrial
septal defect and confirm the intervention on children effetely and feasibly.
Methods: The clinical
information and outcome of surgical repair ASD cases 390 and transcatheter
closure of ASD cases 110 in children since 1994 were collected with
analysis by follow-up the complication. By relative
multiple factor regression estimated the effect of different treatments.
Results: The RVD, diameter of ASD and stretch diameter of
ASD is small in the catheter group than in the surgical repair group. The
RVD had been significant improvement and can be a stander for after the
procedures to see if the patient recovered. It had no significant different
on the difference state in the surgical repair group. The group of catheter
closure had residual shunt about 7 times to the group of surgical repair,
but the Amplatzer devices can decrease this complication. The age and
diameter of ASD of children is not factors may influence the result of the
effect in the surgical group, but they are the indication of the
transcatheter closure group. Applying the new transcatheter closure methods
will be the main influence of the effects in children cases in the certain
range of age and diameter of ASD.
Conclusion: Transcatheter closure of
ASD in children have been more feasible and safely in the range of the
indications. The Amplatzer occludes get widely range of indications than
the others at the time. It had arrived benefit clinical effects and relief
the pain of patients and obviously shorten staying in hospital and get the
more and more prospects.
