CLINICAL ANALYZING THE CASES OF
CHILDREN WITH JEV INFECTION

Objective: To investigate the
clinical characteristics of Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) infection in
children.
Methods: One hundred and
sixty-three cases with suspected viral central nerve System infection were
admitted in Beijing Children¡¯s Hospital from May 1996 to September 1999.
Twenty-three cases were identified as positive JEV IgM by ELISA and their
clinical manifestation were analyzed respectively.
Results: There were high JEV-IgM
positive rate in the two groups of 2-6 years and 6-10 years age that value
were expressed with 18.5% and 28.37% respectively. Acute flaccid paralysis
was expressed in two cases.
Conclusion: JEV is an important
pathogen in children with viral encephalitis in the epidemic season.
Children younger than 10 years old are still the important age group for
JEV infection.
