Objective: Asthma in childhood is almost always extrinsic (atopic, allergic). Allergens (inhalatory and nutritive) are the most common asthma triggers in childhood. Allergologic tests are necessary link in the diagnostic algorithm for asthma in childhood.
The purpose of the paper is to present the most frequent allergens in our environment, recorded as triggers in children being sick from asthma.
Methods: A retrospective analysis consisting of 128 children treated in the Pulmological Outpatient in Kumanovo has been made. Intradermal allergologic tests (※PRICK§ metod) with nutritive allergens in children older than a year, and inhalatory allergens in children older than three years were applied.
Results: The investigation comprised 71 boys and 57 girls, with the age ranging from 1 to 14 years. Positive anamnesis for atopy was present in majority of children (familiar 每 46% and personal 56.3 %). In cutaneous test made with inhalatory allergens, we recorded oversensitivity to Dermatophagoides pteronyssimus (56.3%), home dust (29%), bacteria (3.4%), pollen (weeds 每 6.9%, tree 每 23%, grass 每 4.6%). Polysensitivity was found in 9.2%, Nutritive allergologic tests were positive in younger children (honey 每 3.4%, eggs 每 9.2%, meat 每 2.3%, milk 每 8%, chocolate 12.6%, strawberries 每 4.6%).
Conclusion: No medication could replace the expository prophylaxis. Identification to asthma triggers through the allergologic test is the first step in that way. Control of the environment is the powerful weapon in patient*s arm, i.e. the parent to participate directly in the treatment of his child.
