Purpose: The aim of this study was to present the results of transanal one-stage pull-through for Hirschsprung¡¯s disease in 14 infants.
Methods: 14 infants were diagnosed as Hirschsprung¡¯s disease with contrast enema and suction biopsy. 13 males and 1 female. A rectosigmoid transition zone was suggested in all patients. The mean age and the mean weight at operation was 53.2 day and 4.46kg. A mucosal dissection was begun 0.5cm proximal to the dentate line. The proximal extent of dissection was delineated by the presence of ganglion cells seen on frozen section analysis.
Results: The mean operation time was 166 minutes. There were no intraoperative complications. The patients tolerated feed at the third day. The mean hospital stay after operation was 8.3 days. Follow-up was obtained on all patients at 1, 3, 6 months. All children 1~3 bowel movements per day after 6 months.
Conclusions: The transanal one-stage pull-through procedure for Hirschsprung¡¯s disease is quick and easy adaptation of a well-described technique in infants.
