THE EFFECT OF RIVANOL DRESSING ON SCROTAL EDEMA OF NEPHRITIC
SYNDROME IN CHILDREN

Objective:
Children with Nephritic Syndrome (NS) usually have severe scrotal edema.
Regular treatment for scrotal edema in children with NS depended on
systematical therapy for detumescence which taken a long time. The aim of
this study was to investigate an effect and easy nursing method to relive
scrotal edema faster and to improve the quality of children’ life.
Methods: 84
children with scrotal edema from NS were randomly divided into the therapy
group and the control group. Of the therapy group, there were 20 patients
with sever scrotal edema, 21 patients with moderate scrotal edema and 3
patients with scrotal infection. 40 patients in the control group had the
similar condition. The regular treatment was given to the patients in the
two groups. 0.1% Rivanol dressing on scrotum, twice a day, 20~30 minutes
for each time were given only to the patients in the therapy group.
Results: The time of detumescence of scrotal edema was 5.58±0.70d in the therapy group
and 14.15±4.32d in control
group(p<0.01).
Conclusion: 0.1% Rivonal local administering has good effects on the
scrotal edema of NS. It can make patients get better soon and shorten the
hospitalized period.
