Objective: To
study the effection of vitamineA (VitA) level on the patients with
glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency.
Methods: The
serum VitA level was mesured by High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) in 41 patients with G6PD
deficiency during the period of acute hemolysis and 31 normal children as
controls.
Results: All
patients developed anemia after taking beans. The average level of
hemoglobin was(57.6±11.3)g/L.
The mean activity of G6PD and methemoglobin dioxidation rate were (4.4±3.2)u, (27.9±9.1)% respectively. The
above results were obviously lower than those in the controls with t
analysis (P<0.05). The average serum VitA level in 41 patients was
(0.559±0.220) umol/L, which was
significantly lower than that of controls (1.032±0.357)umol/L with t analysis(p<0.001).
Conclusion: The
level of serum VitA decreased in patients with G6PD deficiency during the
period of acute hemolysis. This may be one of the inter cause leading to
hemolyzing in patients with G6PD deficiency.
