Objective: By karyotype analysis and families
investigation to study the etiology and inheritance of Down’s syndrome.
Methods: The karyotpye analysis was performed
using computer system after routine chromosomal culture and G banding
processing in 11 probands and their families.
Results:
Among 11 probands
with D/G translocation, 2 cases were identified as the scattered due to the
fact of that the karyotype of their parents were normal. Tracking down 9
families with 45 members from which the probands with D/G translocation
came, the D/G translocation in 8 probands were found inherited through the
grandfathers to the mothers and in 1 proband through the father.
Conclusions:
The D/G translocation can be
inherited or scattered. The inherited D/G translocation which account for
the most cases of our data can be prevented by cytogenetic study and
counseling to the families with the probands.
