Objective: To evaluate the maturation of bone age (BA)and growth velocity(GV) in patients with GHD associated with hypogonadotropic hypogonadism treated with recombinant human growth hormone(r-hGH).

Method: BA andGV were evaluated by the TW2RUS method standardized for Chinese children in 18 GHD patients treated with r-hGH for a course of one year.

Results: After one year therapy, the GV.height age(HA)and BA were significantly increased than before, especially in the first 6 months. The acceleration of bone maturation(BA)is faster than the chronological age(CA),whereas the acceleration of height age(HA) is as fast as BA.BA was significantly correlated with HA during prior and post treatment.Arriving one year of r-hGH tuerapy, the GV.HA and BA in younger BA group were increased faster than theolder BA group.

Conclusion: (1) During the period of catching-up growth, the acceleration of liner growth and bone maturation were correlatively induced by GH therapy in patients with GHD.(2) As the bone age at start of GH substitution therapy plays an important role in effect of r-hGH treatment, patient with GHD suggested to be treated as early as possible.
